(Northern California) Margaret Dorfman builds her bowls slice by slice from over forty varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables that have been cured for several days and dried, pressed, and aged. Albeit each bowl is hand shaped and formed, the final shape is always unpredictable. She calls this "vegetable parchment" because the texture and translucency calls to mind the skin parchments of medieval Europe. They can simply be enjoyed for the quiet invitation they offer-to slow down, look closely, and rediscover the complexity and beauty of the commonplace wonders that are so often taken for granted.
